Lost your only car key? Your options in NYC
Losing your only car key feels like an emergency, but you usually have options in New York that don't require towing the car to a dealership. Here is how it works.

Key facts
- A mobile automotive locksmith can make many keys on site, including push-to-start smart keys.
- 'All keys lost' is more involved than copying a spare, but is often doable on site.
- Have your year, make, and model ready when you call.
Spare key vs. all keys lost
If you still have one working key, making a spare is simple. If you have lost every key, the job is bigger: the locksmith cuts and programs a key from scratch and, where the vehicle allows, programs the lost keys out so they no longer start the car. For many vehicles this can still be done on site.
Push-to-start and smart keys
Modern fobs and push-to-start smart keys need to be programmed to your car, not just cut. A mobile automotive locksmith can often do this for less than a dealership and comes to wherever the car is parked.
